The App…

SOMA is a prototype app which leverages heat mapping and data analytics to provide visual representation of population density. Rather than approaching the data from a research or academic perspective, SOMA’s focus is on the social applications of this data.

From SOMA’s website:SOMA_rsz

“Figuring out where to go has never been easier.

It’s a Friday night and you and your friends are visiting Seattle for the weekend. Interested in going out for drinks, you wish you had a way to figure out where the hot spots are for tonight without having to visit each bar in person. SOMA will tell you where the crowd currently is and where it’s headed for the night.”

The Video…

soma_mainThe SOMA team wanted a video to augment their presentation – something that could showcase a real use case scenario, and that would help provide an element of excitement to the presentation audience. They needed a short, efficient, and fun video to amp up the audience before their actual presentation. During filming, I focused on the social aspect of the app – more emphasis was placed on the social potential and outcomes rather than the function of the app itself. This lead to a fun video which was put together in a single evening.

With little more than a base idea from the SOMA team, a Nikon D7100 with a 50mm f/1.4G prime, and a large group of friends to serve as extras, we set forth to film an exciting video! We started filming at 5:00 PM and finished with post-production color grading/final muxing at 3:00 AM – it was a lightning fast production, and I had a ton of fun filming it!
